What If the Apple Glitch Wasn’t A Mistake?

Apple… you got me.

Like many of my friends, I’ve been incredibly annoyed over the past few weeks by the Apple “capital I️” glitch. It seemed like everything from emails to tweets looked strange, as if an emoji gremlin had entered our phone.

Saying what I did, what I want, and where I went all of a sudden became a monumental effort of translating unwanted letters and emojis.

But friends, what if it wasn’t a glitch after all?

What if it truly was intended to ask us “A question” – how much do we consider ourselves over others? What would it be like to not say “I️ …” for awhile? What if we were reminded every time we only catered to our own opinions, wants, and needs?

We may point out others and consider them self-centered and egocentric, but we might want to point the finger back at ourselves.

Consider my suggested word list when I️ opened this app to type. The first option is A ?. I️ must talk about myself, my wants, and my opinions a lot. Not to single me out, I️’d bet many of you are in this boat with me.

Could we go a day without triggering the question? Can we be that determined to focus on others instead of ourselves?

As we enter this week of Thanksgiving, let’s be thankful for the glitch that reminded us that “I️” is less important than asking ourselves the question of how much we consider others over ourselves. And then once we ask the question…

Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.

Philippians 2:3-4.

Thanks for making me think, Apple.

Did the Apple glitch make you think more about your use of the word “I” or the use of your device in the past few weeks?
